BELLVILLE: After tolerating cancer for 24 years, Betty decided to go home Thursday evening, August 2, 2012 after passing away in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1932 in Poca, West Virginia to Clyde Shawver and Mary (Sanders) Deal. Betty moved from West Virginia to Mansfield. She retired from Therm-O-Disc in 1993 after working 32 years.

Betty was a member of Diamond Hill Cathedral and All Believers in Christ Church.

She enjoyed shopping and crocheting blankets for her family. She also served as tour guide for the Living Bible Museum.

Betty is survived by her sons John (Suzette) Thornton and Donald (Kathy) Thornton, daughter Darlis (David) Horn all of Bellville; daughter-in-law Peg Thornton of Galion; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sisters Dellamae Murphy of West Virginia and Rosalie Davis of Florida, brother Eugene (Barbara) Deal of Shelby; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Boyd Thornton, second husband Walter Tucker, son Carl Thornton; sister Lora Singleton, brother James Deal.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Pastor Russell Stanford will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society may be made through the funeral home.
