Ralph S. Hay, 82, of Delaware loved people; he passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at home.

Ralph Hay, a one-time auto body repair business owner in Marysville, had all the characteristics of a great storyteller: an eloquent and powerful voice and rich material based on experiences rarely found in one lifetime. He could easily pull in an audience with his charming southern accent. When his wife Carol saw a twitch in the corner of his smile she knew that the stories would be humorous and ever changing. His patriotism was always a humble and proud thread running through his life and stories.

He was born on October 3, 1928 in Clintwood, Virginia to the late Alfred and Nora (Senter) Hay. His family remain in awe of his strength and courage, particularly when he served in the US Army and survived three years as a POW during the Korean Conflict, upon which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Always the outdoorsman, he treasured his childhood days spent in the mountains of Virginia. It was there he learned to camp, hunt, and fish, activities he would take pleasure in throughout his life. He collected clocks and was an avid reader and history buff.

Ralph is survived by his wife: Carol (Martin) Hay, Daughters: Dr. Nora White (Don McSheehy) of Crossroads, TX, Kelli Traub of Delaware, 3 Grandchildren: Luke White of Bloomington, MN, Samantha Traub of Longwood, FL, Daniel McSheehy of Crossroads, TX, 2 Great-grandchildren: Juliet and Logan White, Sisters: Ann (Dub) Phillips, Rose (Bill) Parrish both of Delaware, Claudette Hetrick and Jeanette Schoonover both of Powell, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandson Simeon Traub, brothers Kenneth and Ransom Hay, and step-father Clyde Wells.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday with Pastor Gary Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Marlborough Cemetery with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Assoc.

Memorial contributions can be made to: St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Bldg., Memphis, TN 38105.
