Carl E. Miller, age 76, of Mount Gilead, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
On April 16, 1936, Carl was born in Mount Gilead, the son of the late Lawrence W. and Amber M. (Jenkins) Miller. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1954.
For many years, Carl was a member of the Boundary United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead. He was also an auxiliary member of the V.F.W. Post 8054 and part of the Cornerstone Breakfast Club with many of his farming buddies.
With every ounce of his being, Carl was a farmer through and through. His crops included wheat, corn, beans, and hay. He also raised livestock many years ago. In addition to farming, he spent many years driving a truck where he hauled livestock, heavy equipment, and produce.
Carl’s life revolved around country living and working on his farm. Many hours were spent with his friends tinkering with and fixing up old tractors and farm equipment. He always enjoyed working at the yearly consignment auction at the Morrow County Fairgrounds. He also formed many close relationships with the Amish in the area.
His family was very important to him and he loved the time spent visiting with them. When they got together he would always mix up a batch of his homemade hand cranked ice cream.
Carl was a strong, hard working, good man. He was very honest, loyal, and a good friend to many. Carl enjoyed life and doing things his way.
Carl will be dearly missed by a son, Howard Guiher of Mount Gilead; two daughters: Rebecca (Fred) Horner of San Antonio, TX, Carla Gorman of Dayton; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Fritz (Janet) Miller of Mount Gilead; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Miller of Mount Gilead; three nephews and one niece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Miller.
Carl’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Iberia Cemetery.
